FAQs
Are consultations free?
There is a charge of £50 for consultations and advisable prior to treatment. This is compulsory prior to Botox treatments as this is a prescription-only medicine. The cost is however deducted from the cost of treatment. Consultation fee is refundable only if 48 hrs notice is given prior to cancellation.
What is Botox?
Botox (Botulinum toxin) is made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, it is a drug that is injected into the muscles to treat wrinkles and facial lines. It can also be used to treat severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). Although not a permanent solution, as over 3-5 months, the muscle gradually grows new receptors and is able to contract once again.
How long does it take?
The procedure itself is quick, safe and non-invasive, usually only taking a few minutes. However, the overall appointment may be much longer due to the assessment, consultation, cleaning and marking out the skin.
Who should not have Botox?
Anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, on gentamicin or anyone with neurological diseases such as Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson’s Disease should not have Botox.
How long does Botox last?
On average, Botox lasts between 3-4 months and in some cases, it can last up to 6 months. Everyone is different, so it does depend on the individual's lifestyle, metabolic rate and facial tissue. For some movement of the muscles may start to awaken after approximately 8 weeks.
How soon will I see results?
Initial results will generally appear within 2-5 days but will continue to improve up to 2 weeks.
Will I look frozen?
No. Well-Being Aesthetics medical professionals are trained to preserve and maintain eyebrow movement, which is the key to creating natural expressions.
What about Botox aftercare?
For the first 2 hours after treatment, it’s important not to rub the affected areas. For the succeeding 24 hours, do not engage in any vigorous exercise, drink alcohol or experience prolonged sun exposure – whether natural or artificial.
Are there any side effects?
There may be some temporary side effects afterwards but these are usually related to the actual act of injecting the skin, rather than the product itself. Side effects may include: minor redness or swelling around the injection site (which vanishes within 1-2hrs), minor bruising, headaches (very rare, usually stopping in about 24-48 hours) and a very small risk of swelling or infection around the entry point. In very rare cases, clients can experience a temporary droop of the eyelid.
What is dermal filler and how does it work?
Skin is made up of three vital layers: the hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. The hypodermis (the deepest level of the skin) consists of fatty tissue, which cushions the layers above it. Immediately on top of that is the dermis, which contains collagen and elastin – two key attributes to a youthful appearance. Constantly renewed when young, production of these slow dramatically with age. The epidermis (or top layer) is the home of crucial cell renewal. In young skin, cells are replaced every 15-30 days, but this slows to every 60 days in later adulthood. Dermal filler replaces lost volume and treats static facial lines by replenishing the natural hyaluronic acid content of the skin.
When will I see the effects of my dermal filler treatment?
Immediately.
How long will the filler last?
Depending on the make and thickness of the filler, they can last for 6-18 months. Areas of most movement e.g. lips, tend to break down quicker.
Will I get a ‘trout pout’ with dermal fillers?
No. Famous cases of these resulted from permanent lip implants – not the non-permanent hyaluronic acid dermal fillers we use. At Well-Being Aesthetics, we are highly experienced at providing a natural, subtle result.
How much filler can I have injected into my lips in one sitting?
At Well-Being Aesthetics, no more than 1ml will be injected at one time. If further volumisation is required, this will be undertaken after a MINIMUM period of 2 weeks. Please note that our clinician will assess each person and devise a treatment plan in accordance with the patient's aim, age and facial shape, however, this will not include overfilling of lips.
Does dermal filler treatment hurt?
Everyone’s pain threshold is different and there will be some discomfort. Prior to injecting, local anaesthetic will be liberally applied to the area and time will be given for it to work, usually at least 20-30 mins, or longer. The fillers used contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic.
Are there any side effects?
Most possible side effects are related to the action of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These can include redness, minor swelling, itching, tenderness around the injection site and potential lumps in the treated area. These can be reduced by massage. If you are prone to cold sores, there is a small chance that one will occur following a lip enhancement. In very rare instances, the blood supply from the smallest vessels can be disrupted causing scab formation and, in some cases, scarring.
Who should avoid dermal fillers?
Women who are pregnant and/or breast-feeding, people with severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis. Patients who suffer from autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and consumers of blood-thinning medications such as Warfarin or Heparin will need careful assessment.
